Chorale Connecticut,
one of Connecticut’s most professional choral
ensembles, is renowned for its beautiful harmony of
voice and diversity of programming. Entering its
12th
season, the Chorale continues to exhibit its mastery of
challenging and magnificent choral works.
Founded in
1996, the Chorale is comprised of
talented auditioned vocalists
hailing from all corners of the state. These
singers’ love of music
resounds throughout each performance, while Chorale
Connecticut’s
apprenticeship program offers opportunities for local
high school students to study and sing with this
acclaimed group.
Chorale
Connecticut, directed by
Dorothy A. Barnhart, celebrated its first public performance in 1996. Since its
opening season, the Chorale has delighted audiences. Each listener is embraced
by a rare blending of voices joyously performing musical masterpieces from
throughout the centuries. Chorale
Connecticut’s performances
are works of art in themselves; under Dorothy Barnhart’s direction, they exhibit
more than technical expertise. They show a sensitivity to nuance, to the soul of
the musical pieces. With each season, the Chorale’s reputation grows.

Chorale Connecticut, an established not for
profit choral ensemble of 50 auditioned singers,
recently presented a plaque in memory of Colonel
Carl Brechlin to Nest Egg Auctions of Meriden,
honoring his support of Chorale’s fundraising
efforts. The plaque was presented to Mary Ellen
Brechlin, Carl’s wife, by artistic director
Dorothy Barnhart and President Holly Wishart.
The plaque’s inscription reads “Chorale
Connecticut honors our friend Carl Brechlin and
Nest Egg Auctions for their generosity of spirit
and unwavering support of Chorale Connecticut’s
mission to transform life through music.”
Chorale Connecticut was the beneficiary of Carl’s
generosity and talent as he hosted its auction
fundraisers for five years. As a gifted
auctioneer, Chorale was not surprised when he
was able to attract a bid of $100 for a single
loaf of homemade bread. Yes, it was a
fundraiser, but Carl also made it an evening of
fun. Carl’s professionalism, generosity,
kindness and wonderful sense of humor will be
cherished not only by Chorale Connecticut, but
also by all who had the privilege of knowing
him.
Nest Egg Auctions is located at 33 Research Parkway
where it has and will continue to run as a
Brechlin family business, as it has for over 10
years in Meriden. Colonel Carl, as he will
always be fondly remembered, died unexpectedly
in 2008.

Our May 9, 2009 concert
brought a patriotic theme to
our repertoire. “Of Thee We Sing” included a well
known medley of George M. Cohan pieces as well as
the moving “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “In
Flanders Field”.
For this stirring performance,
Chorale Connecticut was proud to share the stage with
the Southington High School Jazz Ensemble (hear
them), directed by Jeff Shaw.
